I am Supriya Cherian.

I feel very lucky to have my profession related to Speech & Hearing sciences as I got to work closely with children and understand behind the scenes of speech and language development. It is amazing that we can literally mold our little one's brains in the first three to five years of life and books can do magic during this time.

Since my daughter turned 3 she is very keen to know what my childhood was like. The more I told her how I grew up in Kerala, the more she wanted to know ! Her enthusiasm in fact reminded me of a parent's responsibility to pass down the cultural knowledge to the little ones. Determined to nurture her with cultural experiences, I started looking for Malayalam children's books for her age but the result was disappointing. Also, my research among new mums in Kerala revealed that they do not get books for children until they are 2-3 just because board books are not readily available, I thought "wow, I wish if they had access to good quality books, their childhood would have been more colorful".

That little wish soon became a passion and for the first time in life, I have realized what Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was talking about the dream. "Dream is not that which you see while sleeping it is something that does not let you sleep".

Bilingual books were designed to cater to the Malayali children residing outside Kerala, like my daughter who has just started her multilingual journey. It requires a conscious effort from the parents to raise their children to be proud of their heritage and helping them navigate through their cultural identity in this multicultural world. I hope our resources would help the new Malayali generation around the world to stay connected to the Kerala culture.

Through this mompreneur journey, I want to inspire other wonderful women out there who are hesitant to chase their dreams either because they are overwhelmed by "what if" questions or waiting for the right time to come. Nothing is as hard as taking THAT FIRST STEP
